Some people do believe in God some don't.
My Personal opinion for why people think there is a God:
When you get Kids and they ask you all the time : "What's the universe??" and things like that... the parents answer God created everything and all that started thousands of years ago

I Do.<3 , People Just Don't I Guess..
Why don't people believe in God?
Why do people believe in God?
I think that if there is no God, humanity will never know. How come you proof that something you don't have proof of is unexistent? I believe in God, for I believe that it's not about proof, it's about faith. And also due to the complexity of our universe. An intelligent superior deity must've created it, and must be able to substain it today. For example, look at out very planet. It's size is perfect. If Earth would be a bit smaller, an atmosphere would be impossible. If it was a bit bigger, our atmosphere would contain free H (hydrogen), and it'd be like Jupiter. Earth is the only known planet to have the right mix of gases in the atmosphere in order to allow plants, animals and humans to subsist. Another example: water. Although tasteless, odourless, colourless, it is necessary for any living creature. And water is a universal solvent. Coincidence to find it in the one planet were humanity also appeared?
I also believe in God because if you think about it: if the universe had a start, what the heck caused it? Suddenly, out of the big bang, everything came into existence. Now, what caused it? Quoting professor and antrophysicist Robert Jastrow:
Or should I quote a Nobel laurete in physics, Steven Weinberg, who said:The seed of everything that has happened in the Universe was planted in that first instant; every star, every planet and every living creature in the Universe came into being as a result of events that were set in motion in the moment of the cosmic explosion...The Universe flashed into being, and we cannot find out what caused that to happen.
So, don't get me wrong, I am not a theologist, but it seems to me that even though atheists do not believe in God due to the lack of proof of it, how come they believe in the scientific creation of the universe, if there's no proof of how it began? Of course, we know the Big Bang happened. But how? How come we be so sure that it wasn't a supreme intelligent deity? Lack of proof, uh? The argument goes back and forth, and I trully believe that not until God shows himself to us, if he does, we shall have an answer. If there's no God, then we'll never know. The universe was about a hundred thousands million degrees Centigrade...and the universe was filled with light.
God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.
Since I was born I've moved to over 14 different apartments in 4 different states since my mother can't keep a job. My dad lives in Canada and I've never spoken to him. I have only a couple good friends (that I am thankful for), since I move so much. I've gone through 3 bouts of depression, one that landed me in a hospital and a mental institute for a month. I am now enlisting in the Marines because I don't have any money for college whatsoever, and the job market is shit. I'll most likely lose a limb, but hell at least I'm making a living.
I'm an atheist because if "God" does exist, then what the fuck has it done for me? Yeah it could have given me life, but isn't it more likely that science's view on live giving/birth is correct?
You shouldn't generalize about an entire group of people, because every human is different in infinitely possible ways.
