I recommend simply getting alterIWnet. There are a couple ways in doing so, such as downloading Skidrow's crack or directly from their site, which is the multi-player rip. If you decide to get Skidrow's version, you need to patch it to work with alterIWnet. Now I know that most cracked games are not capable of multi-player but you can in fact go online and it is a much better experience than Steam servers due to the fact that there are dedicated servers with admins constantly keeping out the hackers, and the console is unlocked so if you're host in a matchmaking server, you can kick with the console. Overall, alterIWnet is better and it's free so pretty much without the need to say it, I will say that Steam sucks because of lack of admins and a completely locked down game.
