Teach me how to Hack

So how do you make your own hacks? I don't want to be a leecher.
Im wondering because im intrested in making some of my own, Most of wich will be Private, since I wouldn't want to ruin a good game by having to battle people leeching of something I would have created.
I've used MHS (or w/e its called) in Command and Conquer for really simple things like Infinite Money; but its unclear to me how finding some values would get you things like Chams, (Unless that works diffrently)
Im pretty new to hacking. (Unless you consider Action Replay Codes hacking, I use to make some of my own too, I can remember Making Infinite Health on one of the GBA Kirby Game)

Also a program you may want to download is CE (Cheat Engine) Helps change values in the game although its client sided...but you will learn about this as you read
