Oversized for a normal ATX build. He's better off with something half the price and decent air flow.

For the love of God, if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it. A 500W PSU is not a good choice.

Get at least 750W, in case you'll want to sli or crossfire later. The one I used for Ghost seems cheap and good

SLI means 2 graphics card in the same computer. Having 2 graphics cards. Crossfire means the same thing just with ATi cards.
