This is a very good post and I totally agree.

One of the the arguments I've seen against atheism is that something cannot come from nothing. Which is why they say a deity must exist, because they believe it always existed and is an exception to their rule.

Something can't come from nothing, therefore God exists?

    Some solid reasoning there.

@Paroxysm I'm glad you think that post was stupid, because it was intended to point out the stupidity of that argument
Think about it Paroxysm, all these threads about things like the Big Bang being impossible because something cannot come from nothing use the same flawed logic. Hence the intent of my post was to make that flaw apparent.

    @tdct

Well that wouldn't prove the big bang theory incorrect anyway.

The logic we posses is based off cause and effect( causality )

Simply stated, there has to be something before the me, you, the big bang, and something before that to infinity.(infinite regress)

So that begs the question: Did something start it?

The answer would be "god" to theist, to others it would be something else or nothing.

But this doesn't prove God by any religious standards though. It merely proves that we don't know shit.

Although by any human standards the level of "god" would be from something creating a world or such, so meh.

@Empire I agree with you completely, it doesn't prove God's existence at all, but to many theist who believe in a god because they where raised to or otherwise had the ideology ingrained in them proving to themselves that something like the Big Bang is wrong proves theism is right. Eg this guy: https://www.mpgh.net/forum/89-religio...-atheists.html
It's so common, variations of that thread have been posted plenty of times. People saying the Big Bang is wrong because it didn't make itself therefore a deity is the only answer. I know it makes no sense, but it makes sense to them

Yeah, lots of arguments on religion are like that.

"Because i proved X wrong, Y is right!"

When really you have to only prove Y right for Y to be right. People go out of their way and try to prove others beliefs wrong, when even if they do that, it doesn't prove their own right. Proving X wrong never makes Y right.

Example: If i prove Christianity is wrong, then Islam must be right.

If only people realized that this does not in fact prove anything except Christianity is wrong.
    -------------------------------------------------

Ironically everyone can prove everyone wrong, therefore no one is right. We all stand around looking like idiots in the end lol.

    I absolutely agree.
off topic: You should watch Jesus Camp, it puts the worst spin on Christianity I've ever seen, without making stuff up(not that's a reason to watch it, it shows one of the worst ways people can use or abuse rather religion).

The main reason I don't like religion is because it's a belief taught from other people, if there's anything I believe in it's thinking for yourself.

There is a difference between teaching things like maths, science and english to beliefs and religion.
