The fourth dimension is technically time, but in movies I don't know what 4D is represented as...

Actually it's hella simple. They usually use two cameras to record, one for the left and one for the right eye. When the 3D movie is playing you have special glasses that block & unblock each eye so that you're constantly switching between seeing with the left and with the right eye. When the left eye is watching the projector shows what the left camera recorded, when the right eye is watching the projector shows what the right camera recorded.

So you practically end up seeing what you would see as if you were there, irl aka in 3D.

    ^ basic concept.

I don't see how a ride of all things could be considered "4D"

    Any way to elaborate?

It's incorrect, unless you're gonna start mentioning time as another dimension and going all the way to the supposed 9 or 11 or w/e dimensions some people claim there are

Like when they have a screen in front of you, and you sit on a seat that moves around, so it seems like your moving.

Air is sprayed and water is splashed too.

Scientifically, visually there are only 3 dimensions. There are only 3 directions for movement.
The first 2 left-right and up-down. The third is in and out.
    Or think about the 3 axis's, X, Y, Z.

Actually you kinda screwed up. One is "up/down", one is "left/right" and the last one "in/out".

You're in a cart thing, and you move and twist along with the movie. So say there's a breeze in the movie, there's fans in the theater that'll blow wind in your face at that part.
