[Help] Technique name

I'm looking for the name of the technique where you change the over all color of the picture to a flat almost pasty, or 70s style.

I'll try to find an example of it, but one of you might know what I'm talking about, so I'll keep refreshing every once and a while. obviously if you have an example show me so we are on the same page.

Edit: The last partial picture in Keroaplt avatar kind of looks like what I mean in terms of color, but not exact.

Edit(2): Ryguy's sig has basically what I'm talking about, how it's almost faded, but it usually uses orange, pink, or blue I believe. At least that's what I've seen.

I think I kinda know what you're talking about but I have no idea what your talking about you mean like a 70s style retro poster look?

Gradient Map... Pick a color and white and put it on luminosity and mess around with the opacity.
