So how could I record without lagging / fps dropping so low? Get a better video / graphics card?

Why buy old gen cards when you can get new gen stuff for just a bit more?
Resaun has got a point with the GPU upgrade, I would recommend the same thing. The 5770 is probs slightly better bang for the buck if you get a good deal, but the 460 isn't a bad choice either. Or anything better, if you have the money.
I'm Alen on Steam. RIP Skype Friday nights.

Mr. Lonely: @Alen I like making you wet, it makes me hard.
If I bought the Radeon HD 5770 Would it stop lagging and / or stop frame rate dropping as much?

I'm not familiar with the HD 5570... But seeing that it's from the HD 5000 series it should be able to increase your FPS... Seeing that people play Just Cause 2, Crysis, Black Op's, L4D2, Prototype, Assasins Creed, FIFA 11, Street Fighter 4, Fallout 3, Etc... On that card with good FPS...
It depends what kind of games you are recording. If it's Minecraft, you don't need any more RAM, if it's Call of Duty in full 1080P HD, you most likely want 8 gigs of RAM + a 580 or something.
That's the GPU I have. I can vouch for it. I can Fraps pretty much any game I want at 1920x1080 high settings + a good frame rate. Go for it. I never even get up to using all nine gigs of RAM i've got, but I would consider upgrading to a better GPU before more RAM. Plus your CPU is shit, consider buying a new one too.
