Getting into a highschool?

I had horrible grades in grade 7 because my teacher was rly lazy. the whole class hated her, no exaggeration.

but now, i heard that grade 7 marks rly matter when Highschools are choosing the people they should take in.
Do you think if i work really hard in grade 8, i can get into this really academic Highschool?
On my first + 2nd math quiz, i got 83 and 95, Do i have a chance?

Grades dont matter if your going to public school, my state has a state test i had to pass years ago back in middle school to graduate.

Firstly your not trying hard enough yourself saying your teacher is lazy is just out of this world, i don't know in U.S but in Canada the university looks at your grade 10,11 marks and scholarships at your grade 12 marks, but saying that marks don't count in other grades doesn't mean you shouldn't try, because it is the foundation to the advanced math you will be taking later on.

How is it hard at all? You just use basic linear algebra coupled with a little bit of information on trig functions at the end of the year. I wish I was able to suffice with just linear algebra in school.
