How to add a texture block for minecraft

How can i add my own block texture? I know i have to go in the terrain.png but i don't know how i can add my own. Im trying to add a Furnace block ( new ) i have photoshop CS4

1. Go to .minecraft folder
2. Go into bin
3. right-click minecraft.jar and open as WinRAR
4. find the terrain.png
5.Extract the terrain.png to your desktop
6.Open up Photoshop
7.Open up terrain.png in Photoshop
8.To change the colors I make a new layer above the terrain.png layer
9. Then change the New Layers thing from Normal to Overlay on the right bottomish corner where the layers are located it should be right above the layers in the control menu
10. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool and select the part you want to color
11.Go to your brush tool and start coloring it
12.After done making it how you want it go to File > Save As...
13.Save as terrain.png (replace it with the one on your desktop)
14.Back-up the terrain.png thats in your minecraft.jar and then replace it with your modded one in the minecraft.jar
15. Get on minecraft and check it out
16. Profit

Umm, i haven no idea how to use PhotoShop -_- I don't know how to do this... Need like a visualization. like a vid
Edit 1 : You know when you add your own block into minecraft using MCP, you need to put a block texture number using the terrain.png but i don't know how. I am new so I need a load of help
