If you're looking to play BF3 just get the 6850 or 6950 - both can handle the game just fine and are most likely the best choices in terms of performance/price. Or just wait till Q1 2012 for the 7k series.

They'll be priced just as all the cards have been priced so far

That will cause a price drop in older cards and in turn an even greater performance/price ratio. If you're looking for medium-end cards but want to save cash it's usually best to buy a generation older cards once the price has been killed.
