    Precipice [WIP][1.6MB]

This isn't finished just yet. It's also my emergence back into GFX.

Basically, for those of you who read my thread previously, my art teacher has asked me to do my own work, blah blah blah. One of the things she wants me to do first is to enter this as a poster design for a state tech fair or something so she knows I'm serious.

So I took the idea I had a really long time ago of having a broken planet with gears and framework inside (@Ethereal should remember me talking about this) and gave it a shot.
All I have for the gears is gray circles, I'll be digipainting those as one of my last steps, so that's what those are, if you were wondering.

This is far from finished. I plan on changing it so much that there's a chance I may redo the entire planet. That's how malleable I consider this thing to be atm. It's no more than a concept.

I want critique, the harshest you can give. And advice on what directions to take. But only if you know what you're talking about. Those of you who I'll listen to know who you are.

EDIT: Holy fuck this is bright on my laptop...I'll change that. School monitors man.

quality on the planet, isn't that great
try and dp the break off aswell, looks real choppy, esp that bit between the two dark trails
try and get some more realism into the broken off parts aswell, cause right now they just look like some flat masks
i wanna see the gears painted to get a better idea

The gears painted in there would be nice even just getting some values in there to get a better idea like the gears inside the world is a pretty cool concept you're doing but you're going to have to really work on blending and adding depth to those gears and adding more smaller ones in the back and of course changing that planet to something well...not bright blue.

So far you've got some composition laid out and a good layout of shit I want to see more progress on this

Also I've never really seen you dp so I dot know what to expect or really be sure how fucking awesome this is gonna be

I think you may be better off creating your own planet definitely, it'll give greater control over the lighting.

Adding a nebula in the background could also create a more interesting backdrop, wether you use a stock or create your own, it doesn't really matter. It's only a backdrop :P

Paint Space: Nebula by ~ColdFlame1987 on deviantART

You were probably already thinking this, but you should use stock images for the gears rather than painting or brushing. Brush looks plain and boring, and painting a geometric structure would be too complicated. Better off manipulating a stock.

Gears Transparent PNGs by *redheadstock on deviantART

Also consider rendering images that were taken at different angles, and then add them as smaller detailing, like some gears floating away to join meteor cluster or whatnot, whilst the front on gears will serve as the structure of the planet.

    Browsing Stock Images on deviantART

As for the break off, make it violent and warm, add some particle effects and floating chunks of rock near it.

    FISSURE by ~Nameless-Designer on deviantART

Loca Infernorum by `taenaron on deviantART

Not much of a CnC, more of my opinion on the direction you should take.

    Waw im really liking this.
Even though its still a WIP.
As scrcrw mentioned about the broken parts need to look more realistic, and kero mentioned about how cool the concept is i both support : D .

KIU I'm looking forward to seeing more artwork from you

Surprisingly I don't have a tut for most styles of signatures. But I know where to find tuts for most large art.

Nope, that style is largely unique to him. So not many tuts on that. Just a couple of psd's here and there.

Aff fuck scrap the whole planet man. terrible quality on it. some of the meteorites look transparent (can see space through them) so not realistic at all. The lightning sucks too cuz the place where there's lightning is actually the darkest on the planet, where the lightest is on the opposite side. The framework is like it isn't even there; barely visible and don't draw any attention. No outer effects or anything to make it more original and unique. Far from done, just as you said.

Lense flare behind the planet, i assume this is the sun, should be more rsndom, atm it's very accurate 45 degree angles making it look unrealistic

There's a couple "whorb" tuts here and there go find them they're not very good but I'm sure you can make something yourself using the same principles

Yeah the sun or whatever that is doesn't really look like a sun or star at the time
