I'm not quite as familiar with "desktop"-like laptops, but in all honesty I believe that given the 1k$ budget you are most likely best off with something like the Asus N73 (multimedia laptop, newest version is pretty sexy given the 1.1k$ price tag), you could probably snatch a deal for it

Otherwise any recen Asus N series laptop would be my suggestion, I took a look around and, assuming you don't need something small and portable, I only really found the Asus N series (N73 is the 17" version) and the HP Pavilion dv7 interesting.

Edit: just found out a G series laptop ("gaming" series, the N series is more a "multimedia" one, but I prefer it over the gaming one due to better overall feel) on slickdeals, it's a 15" one but well worth the price: https://www.tigerdirec*****m/applicati...QsPWOYmV7wTwHg
