About +11's

So, how do you go about obtaining one? I've been trying for a little over a year, everythign from advertising I would like to buy one on the marketplace to Rabidly throwing money and enhancement stones at a piece of equipment till it hits 0 durability. And the highest I ever got something was to +9 before it breaks... Is there some trick? should I enhance to +10 using the protection stones then make the +11 jump or just keep ramming my head into it? Cause after 5 Enhancement stones on my Helmet it failed each time so I'm a little discouraged. Just looking for some pointers trying for a +11 black hammer piece, or a +11 rakrak scythe. either or (preferably scythe).
