For those wondering how to do the Spiral Knight achievement, you have to join a Lockdown PvP match (press the crossed swords icon on the HUD in the top right), then pick up a snowball, and hit an enemy with it.

It's worth it since it's free to play.

They appear for anyone, and yes, doing the Nutcracker achievement gets you one coal/gift.
