You won't destroy a headset by playing music. If you want try, I recommend you give a burn-in track a shot or white noise, but I doubt a driver will get damaged by that.

Why do I know nothing

Check if it's computer-specific (common causes are bad connections, either caused by the actual wiring / jacks on the computer or the wiring in the headset), if not just return it? Destroying it is kinda impossible, with normal usage.

The fault was probably with my laptop anyways
