Might as well share my opinion on the whole Kony thing

While I don't really like Invisible Children (70:30 is a bullshit ratio for any charity, regardless if they aren't an NPO) I think they're doing a good service by educating the general public about what's happening in Uganda. Sure -- it has been happening for decades and Kony isn't even the worst offender but it is still good to see people actually being informed about something, even if it is over exaggerated to make a good story.

I hated the way they made the video, too. The way they tried to psychologically toy your emotions was fucked up. The quick, flashing images of children's faces mauled by the LRA. The child being forced to talk about an obviously touchy subject just so the video could carry emotional effect. Apparently Kony hasn't even fought for many years, and IC just brought it up again because it was an interesting story which could make them money. I heard someone say the IC video was like 'Emotional porn'. That's a very good description.

Now onto the financial side of thing. A lot of people are saying that it is a scam, just because they only give around 25.9% of their revenue to charity. A lot of charities do this. In fact, unless the organisation declares that it is a N.P.O then it probably donates about this percentage. This isn't a fucking scam. It isn't something they've hidden from the public (financial statements can be found on the IC website) and it isn't some underground conspiracy. They're a charity, and while an unfair amount of money goes to the staff, they still give.
I read somewhere that a upper-staff member of Invisible Children receives a salary from 90k - 150k p.a That is bullshit. No charity worker should be paid this much. Although I don't believe IC are scammers, they're certainly greedy (especially for a charity).

I agree what you've said about other factions in Uganda are worse than the LRA (such as the government itself). People need to learn about this, not some potentially inactive past warlord. The GBN guy sounds like a much more present threat.

Buddy, I hate to break it to you, but if you don't think there's a conspiracy, you haven't done enough research. Tl;dr is that the video is fear mongering Propaganda made to evoke war sentiments. Why? So we could occupy Uganda. Why? Not so we could drive out the LRA, but becuase Uganda has OIL. Kony is a scapegoat. He's a monster, certainly, but there are warlords far worse, and he's been inactive for the better part of the decade. Plus giving resources to the Ungandan gov't is a mistake, they use the same tactics as Kony, and worse. The Ugandan dictator just wants to hoard natural resources leaving the country in poverty. Be he can't extract that oil with the warlords around. So the US acts as muscle and gets a cut, and the dictator gets his hands on the oil. Kony is the lesser of 2 evils, plus his acts are demonized and exagerated. Don't believe me? Do some research. @Ethereal be so kind as to throw out some sources.

I've said what I had to say on this, and pretty much have expended any more points to make pertaining to this subject.
So I'll keep it short and sweet. There would be no Kony or no LRA if it was not for the atrocities the Government committed that lead the LRA to be formed.
Allying with a greater evil to bring down a lesser evil is hardly justice.
