This is with BT & wireless on & screen at around 80% brightness.

The first thing I do when I get a laptop is install a fresh copy of English W7. However the battery life is still legit.

No, you've just never had a good laptop. Any decent ulv laptop can handle 10+ hours, any decent one that has a low power SSD, no unnecessary peripherals and proper voltage / power control can easily hit 12+ (such as the image from the crapware-filled OS). I could easily push both my Asus ULs over 14 hours, I can easily hit almost as much on my Vaio Z if I have the sheet battery slapped on.
