Not to be too pride filled, but we still invented almost everything that modern day things have evolved from.

-Democracy
-Almost all of the Math we use today.
-Half the English language is taken from ours.
-Our scientific breakthroughs were revolutionary for their times.

I mean, sure the country is in shit right now. But we made a lot of useful shit along the way, and if it wasn't for what we made the world wouldn't have gotten as far as it did.

I was being a bit sarcastic, don't take it too personally. As for democracy, you can hardly call it democracy. Only Athenian males who owned land could vote. If we want to be technical, the fist democracies were in Mesopotamia and the Indian sanghas and ganas.
Mathematical concepts stem again from lots of Indian and Sumerians but yes, the Greeks did advance math a lot.
And there is evidence of the wheel being used in Mesopotamia, Indus Valley and the Nubians (See Bronocice pot). So the Greeks didn't really invent the wheel.
As for English, while we do speak it today, English is not seen as a "beautiful" language. Languages such as Portuguese are seen as like that. But English isn't that hard to learn and many circumstances have made it a global language.

Greece did do a lot of revolutionary things. but I believe they are way overrated. imo

i don't really feel like hating on Greece right now (although they do need to get there shit together but as american im conflicted with also being near the same situation and just not caring)
but English originated from German roots but when many many of the Anglo-Saxons moved on to the Norman people the language got even more modified
so in your part your contribution goes only as far as you contributed to the french language which got help from the roman language which doesn't use everything you use.
so in end you the Greek language may of helped like...ill give it 8-10% overall considering all the factors

Oh yeah, I know Greeks didn't make everything. But we did do a lot of great things, not sure if it can overshadow the shitty situation the country is in right now, but oh well. I'm not a Greek citizen, I'm just of Greek decent.

Oh, and Cole. I speak English and Greek and there's a LOT more that 8-10% of the language that's similar. Maybe it's not BECAUSE of Greece, but a LOT of the words are the same. I realize English stemmed from many of the Celtic languages, but there's a lot of Mediterranean (mainly Greek) influence in there too. :S
