CVAR Fullbright rumor.

Expected or Desired Behavior:
Players should not be able to launch the game with Fullbright Textures and benefit from the competitive advantage those colors provide, against Players in an sv_pure enabled server. sv_pure servers aim to equalize the playing field by making the textures and models the same for all players.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem:
1. change cvar within game or launch options

It seems the problem can be reproduced by changing 1 simple cvar

I have not included the CVAR here as it is exploitable and clearly if released to public could cause huge numbers of cheaters to use it and maybe even develop upon it.

I searched but could find no reference to this problem.

Here is the quote from Steam forums:

-tools +mat_hdr_enabled 0 +mat_hdr_level 0 +fullbright

So if you run game with these commands you will get like legal cheat..
Game looks like crap, but you can see everything. This gives huge advantage. We need this fixed ASAP.

Thus, that doesn't work properly for me. I get pitch black shadows:


Still playable, though. And player models are even more contrast
Also, I had to remove "-tools" key, here is what I get otherwise:


Probably "-tools" removal is the cause of those black shadows.

Another method to achieving this shitty fullbright with big black shadows is to use the console command hide_menu and it will give you access to the old options, you simply change the HDR to off in options. Then you use the show_menu command to get back to normal.
