Anyway, it depends how you approach it. Using PEMDAS/BODMAS whatever it'd be:
    48 / 2(9 + 3)
    = 48 / 2 x 12
    = 48 / 24
    = 2

If you did it from left-to-right, using standard order of operations it'd be:
    48 / 2 x (9 + 3)
    = 48 / 2 x 12
    = 24 x 12
    = 288
    Agreed, Master

    2 is the real answer.
because even tho the division is before the multiplication, the 9 + 3 has to be multiplicated by 2, not 48 / 2. 2 is stock to (9 + 3)

Makes no sense, lets say you are building a bridge, and you have to calculate this equation for some gravity shit, you can't say "take 2 or 288 depending on how you are taught" Only one answer would be right. There is only one answer, if there were 2 answers, we wouldn't have buildings.

When I used the standard OOP in highschool my teachers said every answer was wrong, so I used shitty ass PEMDAS and took multiplication before division because that's how the moronic school I was in taught. Though in college I use the standard OOP (where multiplication and division are equal, same with addition and subtraction) and am fine. The reason I say you can use it both ways is because I was almost fucked grade wise in HS thanks to my educational systems horrendous choice in teachers.

Though if we're following the OOP then it wouldn't be 2, as multiplication and division are on parallel grounds. So if we are to do the addition in the parentheses as we are supposed to first, we are left with division and multiplication. After you have the 12 from the 9+3, it's equivalent to 48 / 2 * 12, which in this case is 288. If we take multiplication as the hierarchy like what we're constantly taught in PEMDAS over here in 'murrica it's 2. Though I'd rather stick to what I've learned in college over HS, considering my HS was a shit hole.

    288
    (9+3)=12
    48/2(12)
    48/2=24
    24(12)=288
    48/2(9+3) - Wolfram|Alpha

    My answer is 288.
    BIDMAS .
    Brackets , Indices , Division , Multiplication , Addition , Subtraction

    9+3 = 12
    48 / 2 = 24
    24 * 12 = 288

    left->right is taught everywhere tho.
But when teachers omit that Multiplication == Division order wise it can be harmful, the worst is when teachers make you follow PEMDAS falsely, by putting multiplication as the hierarchy to both. If both are equivalent then the answer would still be 288 as you do not spread the number before the parentheses unless you have a variable thrown in before the parentheses rather than a number.

Ok, until we get a proven answer, apparently half the people are wrong.

Never mind, screw this shit! I get enough math every day already -_-

    We use BEDMAS

    B - Brackets
    E - Exponents
    D - Division
    M - Multiplication
    A - Addition
    S - Subtraction

Division & Multiplication in order of appearance. Addition & Subtraction in order of appearance. Meaning whichever comes first, do that first.

Answer following that (What we learned) is 288
