I only really use it at night when I can't see the keys on my laptop, other than that it's pretty pointless except for effect.

Effect actually bothers me more. My shit is as clean and simple as I can get it. I prefer it that way much much more. I never need to look at my keys, and even if I did, my monitor provides enough light for me

Good point, I never look at my keys either. I have backlighting but I turn it off when I'm on my desktop, the only lighting I like that I did myself are my numerous LED's (green) behind my monitor to give my backwall a soft glow. It helps with my eyes when I'm working on music for a long period of time. I'm a light whore, but when it's put on EVERYTHING is when it becomes to much.
