    Got my appraisal today

Going to the gym to have an appraisal done today and get a training program made up. Signed up with my local gym for 6 months so I can get fit and bulk up for basic training in the Navy.

    Anyone done an appraisal before?
What was it like? What did the instructor/coach person make you do?

First time working out in a gym so I'm quite nervous

Good luck with that , good of you to keep yourself fit. I haven't done an appraisal, but I've been doing excersises my PT has given me for my knee, although tbh I've been very lazy with them.

My tip to you: Push yourself to the limit.
Your muscles will tear a lot and recover a lot, and it'll be a process that helps you in the end.

I'm not the fittest guy around. My upper body strength isn't that great but my lower half is decent because I do a lot of mountain biking and riding skateparks etc. The gym membership is actually my Christmas present from my parents so I can work towards BT for teh navy

I'll try my best. I learnt that if you tear your muscles during workout then they repair as stronger muscles which allows you to build strength and endurance, if I'm correct?

This is what I have to work to

That's basically what working out is.
Every time you work out you're pushing your muslces to breaking point tearing the fibers in the inside of them, once you make a recovery those fibers come back stronger than ever.
    Rinse lather and repeat.

    Pro tips:
Eat a light but filling pre work out meal about an hour before workout, and then eat one after, preferably a protein bar like a peanut butter clif bar.
    Drink lots of milk.

But the gains man, think about the gains rather than whether or not you like it.

The taste makes me gag. But for breakfast usually I would make a berry and banana smoothie which includes quite a bit of milk

You could try a protein shake. You could also add some sugar or liquid sugar to the milk because sugar tastes really well in milk, just sugar and milk.

    It is

If it's not a good brand, it'll have to do. I'm not gonna shell out $50+ on more protein powder crap.

Anyways, appraisal went better than I thought thought I would have to do some pull ups or something like that... only had to fill out 4 sheets of paper
