It's a cropped image of JUST a character and maybe an effect (produced BY that character). It could be many things, I could render a tree, it's just that characters from shows and video games and much more popular.

A lot of people (like myself) work around a render when making their piece.

But yeah, it's basically anything that has been cut out of it's original image.

Does it really require that much skill? Wouldn't it just take a lot of time...

Getting the render is half the battle.. you absolutely have no clue. Google search it.

Well i mean, couldnt you just use the lasso tool or w/e to go around it? are you adding more effects, or just taking taking a character out o.o

I got that part down, im just wondering if its really that hard and takes THAT MUCH SKILL to cut a picture from a background...doesnt it just measure how careful/patient you are...

Rendering isn't that hard (at least not with GIMP, I've never used PS, so I wouldn't know).

All it really requires is patience, which is why using someone else's render isn't something that's frowned upon.

They aren't. :P They're just trying to figure out which render to use for their battle (which is going to be of signatures/tags).
