enable/disable fieldOfView [0,1]
renderer.fieldOfView 0

enable/disable menuViewDistance [0,1]
renderer.menuViewDistance 0

I've tried these but the fog just doesn't seem to be gone. Could you help?

It is possible but all the particles will be enabled again e.g smoke...

enable/disable particles ex:smoke,fire,explosions,dust,sniper trails,etc. [0,1] fps boost when set to 0
renderer.drawparticles 1

You can not disable fog through the general.con file, becuase it will be overwritten by the level settings. Only way to do it is in-game, through the console.
