I am by no means a computer expert. I think at one time I opened a key stealer when I was using a banned key so in that regard it didnt hurt me. could my registry have been damaged? would this fix the damage? I can use darky successfully to change my key at will if that information helps.

It still could've locked your registry and changed your key, the bright side is your actual key was not stolen. If you can use Darky to change your key then you should be fine, else you use this program's key changer.
