Post apocalyptic games, what do you like about them?

I am working on a small project for school that includes me researching what it is that people like with post apocalyptic games and what they don't like!

So I would want to ask following questions;

What is it with post apocalyptic themes that is so appealing?
What do you NOT want to see in a post apocalyptic game?
What do you WANT to see in a post apocalyptic game?
Would you prefer a post apocalyptic game set in an alternative history or in the future or in some other time?

Fallout 3 was by far the best post-apocalyptic game. It checked all the criterias for me, it was just perfection in a game. I played 400 hours of it and finished the story 10+ times.|
Things i look for in a post-apocalyptic game -
- A logical apocalypse scenario.
-Survival apsect.
- Crafting.
- A diverse selection of weapons.
- Real location's with a post apocalypse theme (Example, fallout 3 was set in DC and you got to visit real world locations except messed up).
- Not over the top, what i mean is that i dont want the world to be absolutely leveled to nothing but dust and remnants of what ocne was.
- Main groups, in fallout 3 they had the brotherhood of steel and the enclave for example. Fighting it out for a source of pure water.
- Looting.
- Diversity in environments and scenarios from other games.
