I'd go with 4 but to be honest, 500$ is way too little to build a computer. Because 500 is like barely a good processor. You should get at least a quadcore and that's about 300-400$. Don't worry too much about the case of the comp tho because that's just cosmetics, if you have a low budget, get the best running ability rather than any eye candy.

I'm not going for anything to extreme just something that can run a game smoothly like bf3 on whatever setting needed.

The Phenom will do that, and has very stable OC'ing numbers. Save money with the Phenom and get a decent GPU.

I know but 500$ will get your bf3 running on pretty low settings.

Find a deal on a Western Digital 1TB HDD for storage, that SSD will fill up quickly. With that setup you can build on it for quite some time and make it fairly beast.

I'd go with build 3, and you don't need a good-looking case (unless you want one) in fact if you're really tight on money you don't need a case at all.
Click the 'Thanks' button at the bottom right if I helped you in some way or if you're a good person looking to thank me for no reason

agree with the case thing, just get a fish tank and fill it with mineral oil. no Case, cheap cooling.

A dual core CPU? Really? That'll be kind of slow, just saying.
I have some suggestions, if you want to see them.

    Case: NZXT Source 210 $34.99
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 $94.99
HDD: Western Digital Blue 500gb $59.99
    RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB $66.99
    Mobo: ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 $69.99
    PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX430 $39.99 + $4.99 Shipping
Video Card: MSI R7770-PMD1GD5 Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition $124.99

    Should come out to $496.92.

Alright so I got the AMD Phenmon II 965, it's a AM3 and I need a motherboard that is compatible with it, is this compatible? BIOSTAR Hi-Fi A85S3 Ver. 6.1 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Newegg.com

If not then can you guys find me one that is and it's around the same price please? @Lehsyrus @Buttermilk Biscuits @Liteaku Seriously don't want to end up with a motherboard that isn't even compatible with the processor.
