Like really, the whole internet made fun of that console, I don't think even the richest people would buy it just to brag, because its such a big piece of shit.
It is 10 years later, and you dust off your xbox one to play some games.
You plug it in and connect it to your television. You turn it on.
You cannot play your games because the servers it connects to every day were taken down.
meaning the console won't last longer than microsoft wants to support it.
-dear jetamay-
Which is why it's bad if the microsoft and the xbox will take care of all the DRM stuff. Once they say fuck it, you can't play your games. If the individual companies had their own system, even if microsoft ditched the xbox, you could still connect to their private servers.

That was actually a legitimate concern for me. Being that I really only have had a 360 for less than a year now, by the time I actually MIGHT get an X1 its going to be sometime into the development of the next generation. I'm already starting to get worried about loosing support/the mass of the playerbase when I finally get Xbox Live for my 360 all because I couldnt afford to get the new shit.

In some ways, it's true. I'm trying to be fair here, rather than some PS4/Xbox fanboys, but generally speaking they'll patch it and remove the DRM like some games.
However, how good is that when they shutdown the patch servers? You better hope you can download the patch onto a USB drive, if they're kind enough to let you and it's easy to remove, else you're just out of luck. Of course Jetamay here is going to argue that you shouldn't be playing 10 year old game consoles when MS stops supporting it, lol. It's not up to you to choose how to use your product you purchased, it's up to Microsoft to choose what you get to do with it.

Which is almost 10 years.
Mainstream support ends in 5 years for microsoft products
5 years after Xbox, the 360 came out.
around 5 years later they end the extended support (cut all servers)
So it's pretty safe to assume Xbox One won't last longer than 10 years. After all, they will have a new console that they will want you to buy if you wanna play some Xbox anymore.

If steam shuts down, you lose access to all your games.
You are absurd if you think Microsoft is going to shutdown their DRM servers. This is definitely a very long term and recyclable model. It will be in the next xbox, the xbox after that and maybe somewhere in Windows 8 as well.

yeah microsoft screwed it pretty much up at the E3 week
