You finally figured out how retarded US govt is
Want a cookie?
Well, fuck.
This is exactly why I'm opposed to the government, retarded spending of taxpayers money.
It's actually cheaper than textbooks. Setting a deal with Apple will drop the price for them resulting in Apple getting a nice tax break, the cost of all of the text books per child is roughly over 500 bucks minimum (it was in my shithole school and they were outdated as far back as 1996), as well the textbooks on the iPad will cost roughly 20-50 bucks per book instead of in the hundreds. As much as I think they should have used a Kindle instead, it was well thought out.
So I just did some research and found that eTextbooks cost just about the the same as physical textbooks, and most sources don't allow purchase, only timed rent.
So what we have is:
Pay $500 for an iPad.
Pay $100 to rent a textbook for 6 months. (x5)
Pay another $100 if the textbook is used all year. (x5)
Pay $100 every subsequent 6 months that the book is to be used.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't get to keep the book.
Continuous funds are needed to maintain access to the book.
Power is needed to maintain access to the iPad.
Upkeep is needed for the iPads.
iPads can be easily damaged.
Students will most likely not be allowed to take the iPads home.

The world is a filthy place, it's a filthy goddamn horror show.
Which is one of the issues with eTextbooks. Normal physical copies will depreciate over time, and thereby reduce in value, which makes them more affordable to purchase used. eTextbooks will eternally remain unchanged, thus holding the same value, save for time-based price drop.
