OP if this really is your first alcoholic drink then shy away from things that are too strong. Just start off with something easy like a good rum and coke. If you drink something that tastes like ass then you might get turned off it. Some sweet and malty liqueurs might also be worthwhile as they tend to have a different and more distinct taste then your average beverage. But again if you getting a bartender to mix for you, then you can't be sure what your gonna get will taste as good as it should.

Sorry I should have clarified, this is not my first ever drink. Hell no! I've been frazzled enough times before now. It's just that this'll be the first time a can legibly walk in to a pub and and get me a beverage of the alcoholic variety. So I guess a better question would be what is a good drink to start a night that isn't gonna fuck me in the ass later on in the evening.

1. Just because you like to pretend to be different people doesn't mean everyone else does.

2. It takes a minimal amount of common sense to figure out that if OP is now 18 and is going to walk into a certified bar and order a drink then there is a high probability that he does not reside in the US.
