Since evolution of combat was released, and all those ingame purchase spins runescape got nerfed.
And with the release of rs3 its even nerfed.

Runescape it's combat, and the way jagex did care about the community, which they now don't.
Before 2012 there were no Solomon's store and squel of fortune this are features ingame which make it able to buy items/cosmetics/exp and ingame currency for real money.

And the combat part is totally changed, runescape had an unique combat style, now they changed the combat.
They added abilitys, weapons which were good are now totally garbage, every armor above level 70+ defence is now overpowered as fuck.
The old combat was balanced, altought some weapons were overpowered, but you had special attacks on weapons, each had his own special, and some didn't have.

Also the combat leveling is fucked up.
Before EOC the max combat was 138, now 200
Per defence level you go 1 level up so you can be for example

Level 100 with 10 hp, 99 def and everything else 1
And someone else can be level 100 with everything 70+ and defence 1

And the worst of all is the amount of players is going dramatically down.

Pre eoc on a saturday - 300,000 people on average
After the new combat - 80,000 people on average
Runescape 3, which requires an high spec computer to play well - 30,000 people on average

That game is dieing.

Although I do agree with your statement about how Runescape is going downhill, I can actually see it as them honing their skills as a company. In a few years time, I wouldn't be surprised if they scrapped Runescape and used their enhanced graphics to create a new game.
And if that new game has the community which Runescape had 7 years ago, count me in.

- I will never be close to being the best
- I am currently doing the same thing I was doing 4 years ago, and have nothing to really show for it.

I started playing RuneScape back in 07/06 (Yus back when I was a little kid) I think I left a while before dungeoneering was first released and tbh the games so bad right now. I miss my old memories.

well if you like games where you can bot or pay to be the best ( or at least better than other players) i suggest adventure quest worlds and its even for browser
