Thats cus after the magic academy it's a transition. I didn't like the pirates arc, but it was better at the magicians.

Those are a couple of recommendations. I really liked all of them and they're reasonably unknown. If you haven't seen Planetes, Haibane Renmei or Now and Then, Here and There I highly recommend that you watch them.
