A pop filter won't reduce the echo, it will only protect against plosives. If you want to reduce the echo, your best bet is to treat your room. Acoustic foam is the best way to do so (in my old studio apartment before the one I am now, I significantly reduced the echo by using 20 foam panels). If you can't afford them, try using thick bed spreads or sheets strung up about and inch to two inches away from each wall, and don't forget about your ceiling. If you have a hardwood floor, be sure to have a thick rug to help block unwanted transients.
