Depends.
Some private servers run via Hamachi. Means the server is not online 24/7 because the server owner does use his computer as a server. So when thepc turned off = the server off. Then you have VPS servers which are 24/7 online like official realm.
Some are even lass laggier than official realm. Some are laggier.

Also a benefit is that you get a lot of custom stuff that isnt added at the official realm.
You can max easier etc etc etc

No. Private Servers are not connected to PROD in any way. People go out of their way to replicate the game from scratch and host it on a platform.

From a developers POV, Private Servers are not "Beneficial." They can generate some money here and their through donations, but that's about it. You make one because you want the RotMG community to experience RotMG in your perspective.

Through a players POV, private servers provide fun that the official game does not offer.

Tho 90% of people on the RotMG Pserver section don't know what they are doing in terms of actually coding/developing the actual thing, so people like "Me(arguable)" and other member of the section release tutorials/source codes, so that the 90% can eventually do their own thing, but some people *Not gonna say any name* steal other people's work and release it claiming that it's theirs and do other things, so now this section is near extinction.
