There is no bias or ignoranace, it's literal statistics. Beats, Souls, and Skullcandy's all have incredibly repressed mid-ranges with over-driven lows. To get the crispest sound possible, you'd want a flat response.

Brands to stay away from:
Beats by Dre - Sub-par sound (Badly repressed mids, over-driven lows and highs), very cheap build quality, hellishly over-priced.
Soul by Ludacris - Strikingly similar to Beats.
Skullcandy - Low-quality sound, weak drivers, cheap build-quality.
