What was wrong with the original? I don't really know why we would need a remake of it, this looked as average as the other one.
The difference to me is that the other one is a cultural classic, this one is not.

Yea I saw it around that age, but looking back now, that was one awful movie. But everything I've heard about this movie has been good plus Toho is producing this with Legendary and they aren't going to let their biggest license get fucked over. Then you have the director and producers who are all fans of the original Toho series. A lot of good buzz about this movie.
