I saw a thread a little bit back comparing it to Sword Art Online. Let's just say I fell asleep watching the 1st episode of Log Horizon. Should I retry watching it?

No. I'd advise just staying away from it... it's pretty damn shitty. I've watched up to episode 9 and it slowly gets worse. Like the new episodes do some shit that'll never happen in a MMO and it spends the entire episode trying to explain MMO terminology. If you're looking for a VRMMO anime I'd recommend the .hack series. I've watched the entire series (not the last CGI movie) and I have to say it's pretty good. Overall there's like a dozen titles in the series and the only one that was bad was legend of the twilight.

And I'll just add in that it has one of the most damn soundtracks you'll ever hear in an anime. Sword Art Online has a nice soundtrack though it can't compare in the slightest, and LH has a pretty pathetic one.

Because even though SAO second arc was shit, and almost made everything pointless that was defining it so far, Log Horizon is just incredibly lazy.

-Low-bar comedy
-Some sort of by-episode plot.
-More meaningless rpg mechanic explanation, has nothing to do with the show really.
-"Action" if you can call it that.

Yeah, on the first episode I just remember the game looking way too complicated and the skills and magic they used (not sure what they were doing) was pretty low tier.

Listen, I dislike SAO.

But Log horizon has worse characters, story, animation, action, comedy, and a worse rpg system.


Log horizon also goes to such painful lengths to explain shit in a way that even video game tutorials go "ugh, really?".
