Yeah, my AP US History teacher showed us the actual telegram but he never hinted at it being fake. I really don't get why Germany wanted Mexico to 'backstab' the U.S. by attacking them since the U.S. was still remaining neutral in WW1 (Unless Germany wanted to get rid of the U.S. before they got involved). They basically screwed themselves over.

People are speculating WWIII because this is exactly how WWII started. Germany wanted to annex parts of the Sudetenland since it had Germans in it. Then that escalated into taking over Europe. I can see this happening again. Russia is claiming that many people on the Crimea are Russian and want to protect them; however there's no proof that any of these people were in any danger. So Russia, technically, is just taking over this land for no reason other than personal gain. Once Russia sees the benefits outweigh the consequences (from sanctions and trade embargoes placed on Russia from the UN and stuff) , it will continue taking over land as it feels until another country feels obligated to protect it, which will probably be the United States. Once the United States intervenes, pretty much most of her allies and probably the United Nations will be supporting the US as well, thus escalating it into WWIII.

Then we go boom boom, nuke nuke and humans are eradicated from Earth leaving (hopefully) a more intelligent species to takeover.
