So as the thread name asks. My uncle was involved in a car accident yesterday and he's now in a coma. My family is all really on edge, my father hasn't left the hospital yet and doesn't intend to until my uncle does.
One way or another.
Also, what are the odds of death from just falling unconscious due to lack of air?

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
If he's on life support, then probably very low. But then there is the chance he has hemorrhaging then idk.
Brain damage starts about 30 seconds after oxygen supply is cut off I think, death within minutes
Coma patients usually take longer to die due to their stabilized conditions
There are about 500 factors unexplained by this thread and it upsets me.
From my limited knowledge, it depends on how long he was without oxygen. It is highly unlikely that he will die while in the care of the hospital; however it is not unheard of for their to be brain damage. It's possible (likely) that you uncle will have to undergo physical therapy and that he will have limited motor functions. However, this is based off of the severity of the crash, and the type of coma that he is in. Everyone is different, comas can last up to several decades.
Ps. Coma treatment sucks - it's expensive, it's kinda gross (bedsores.), and it's sometimes hard watching someone you love have a feeding tube forced down their throat because they can't swallow.
Sorry I'll tell you all the details I know according to the report.
He crashed his Holden Ute at around 19.29 and paramedics arrived at 19.37, when the paramedics got there he was unconscious with a sever cut through the inside of his right elbow. He arrived at the hospital in a stable condition at 19.53.
That's all I know.

It's still impossible to know exactly how long he went without oxygen, and if his unconsciousness was due to it, or a secondary factor of the crash. Unconsciousness from lack of oxygen takes around 45 seconds, but hypoxia can set in pretty quick. The fact that he's in a coma though, indicates there is at least some amount of brain damage.
