Why do people make a big deal out of it when a mod thanks them?

Does anybody know why this is? I have seen in a few different sigs, people screenshotted the thanks on their post where a mod thanked them.

its no big deal...its not like you are cooler because a mod thanked you.

well, ive seen it on three different occasions. they removed it after a little while, but still...it was there.
