Yeah, it sounds cliche but it's actually quite good. It was originally a light novel but it was adapted into a manga and now an american movie... I read the manga and I'm going to read the light novel later but I wouldn't expect much from the movie considering it's obviously not going to be faithful to the novel.

The manga:
It's odd. It's the premise of groundhog's day in war. Not a bad idea, but not exactly inspiring till later either.

I like it but the artist is used to drawing shonen so the violence is a little cheesy.


The premise that the military wouldn't adapt for the weapons that are effective against the mimics is also a bit silly.
In fact, the entire military is seemingly run by teenagers lol.

The movie:
I have no doubt the actors can pull off the plot.(though they are a bit older than the manga).

But the mech design.....what the fuck?

I like mechs, I like mech suits I like all sorts, but what the fuck is with that shitty ass design? The head is unprotected?


Oh....my......god..Did they just re-use props from the Matrix revolutions? Even the damn mimics look like the sentinels. GAAAAAAAAAAH and the original mimics were fun to look at too! Guess hollywood cgi is expensive or something, lame.

*sigh* It will be a decent movie, just could have been a great one. It's also not going to be about the mimics but some bullshit spy thing.

The biggest problem i'm seeing is that the mimics can somehow fire projectiles at choppers. Which doesn't really follow into the plan, and that the main characters aren't using a giant fucking axe.(because no, we want them to be generic weapons used on generic enemies).

In the manga: the whole point of the mimics is that they can take a hit or two and that only heavy weapons can take them out. Which is why they are such a threat because of melee range.
In the manga: They aren't tentacle/squids from the matrix because then mankind would just use a fucking machine gun.

Honestly of all the series... I'd rather have something like Biomega or Terraformers be made into a scifi. It's just a missed opportunity.


SURE it's cool that something is FINALLY getting some budget behind it, but I'm a bit dissapointed that some series that are a LOT better for adaptation don't get put in.
(I mean biomega is pretty much pure action and has a bear with a sniper rifle. Easy cgi and holy fuck would it look cool. *sigh*).
