its because its not derogatory to one another when they say it to another, if you call ur white friend a ****** then its not offensive, if u call him a cracker, its not offensive, calling ur own race a racial insult is most likely not going to offend them

last time i checked ******'s was not used specifically for african americans. it was used in context for trashy people not highlighting black people.
