how to check if a torrent has a virus?

soo... I downloaded watch dogs last night and with the recent news of a virus making your pc a bit coin mining machine, I'm curious if the torrent download I use has the virus? I scan the file with both avast and malwarebyte but no threats were detected

In basic terms, the torrent file just tells the client (μTorrent, BitTorrent) where to download from.

It's just an instruction where to get the actual files from, so it won't come up with a virus.

USUALLY if there are a lot of seeders, it can be considered OK. I would only recommend downloading from confirmed users and moderators though.

Just go to places you feel safe downloading; if you go to TPB go with the ones with green or pink skull. Or with loads of seeds.

Anti Virus = Scan. Or use malewarebyts

Check uploader as the people above have said and also check the comments. Occasionally a few people with terrible grammar will claim that they got a virus from it. Don't listen to those.

3 things you can do to ensure safety when torrenting files:

1. Check if the person is a trusted user, usually users with a Green or Pink skull next to their name on thepiratebay are trusted.

2. Check the comments, if you see one person saying it has a virus, do not fully believe it until you read ALL the comments.

3. After downloading it, before even opening the folder you should scan it with both MalwareBytes and a virus scanner you have installed.

(If you do not have a Virus Scanner, ESET and NOD32 is what I use right now, never had a problem.)

You can't 100% make sure but there are some things you can do.

Check the comments, only download torrents with lots of seeders/leechers. Also make sure it's from a trusted/vip member(purple and green skulls)

Also scan it before opening it, though windows anti-virus programs can't possibly catch everything.

I've already installed it and it works, laggy but works.... I did got a game crash, but no suspicious activity is task manager
