I'm pretty sure X-Trap is just an anti-cheat (that sadly doesn't work).
Hi everyone, it's my first post on the forum.
A few years ago, one of my friends told me about CrossFire. I downloaded the game onto my computer, played it, and I really enjoyed the game. (Playing legit) I still have an account on there and it has quite a lot of GP and guns on it. Now I have a new computer and a clean Windows 8 install. I don't want to slow it down with malware, viruses or anything. I've also got a lot of files on my computer that need to be kept confidential. I'm not a huge fan of anti-cheating software or DRM -- as soon as I find it on my computer, I uninstall and delete every piece I can find.
My question is, does X-Trap do anything harmful to your computer? I looked it up on Google and some people say it's safe and only attempts to stop hackers, while others literally say that X-Trap is a rootkit that stays in your system even after games that use it (CrossFire in this case) are uninstalled. X-Trap can run in the background, whether not the actual game is running, and record your screen/keystrokes/activity and can give backdoor access to Wiselogic or Z8 Games. Is this true, or am I just paranoid and read a bunch of lies posted on the Internet?
X-Trap is basically the only thing stopping me from installing and playing the game, and I'd like to get some advice and feedback from the pro hacking community before I go ahead and install. Thanks everyone.
