I just want to put out there though that gun ownership has never in a single reliable study been proven to contribute to murder and/or violent crime rates, and a vast majority of the US' gun deaths are suicides anyway. Gun ownership rates are higher in rural areas, and yet the murder rates are far lower within that demographic. It's all cultural, and we're unfortunately affected by what I refer to as 'The ****** Effect'; which states that almost every negative stat on the US can be statistically linked to the presence of inner-city hood rats. 15% of the population, 55% of murders, now tell me there isn't a problem there. There's a huge difference between black people and ******s, but no, you're racist if you ever bring it up, "It's the damn pigs racially profiling, blah oppression, blah inequality, blah where's my welfare check?, *sound of shitting*. "

I might have phrased myself poorly when I said getting shot or whatever, what I meant was that you're less safe with all the guns being present. Now whether gun ownership gets you shot, beaten up, non-fatally wounded, in the end you're worse off than if you had guns. If you want a study, go check the one I already linked previously:

There are definitely other factors at play here, but in the end you can find more than enough proof that a country as developed as the US would probably be better off with stricter gun control (the study linked is just one such case, use your google-fu for more).
