Just enlisted into the military

Well, I'm bored with civilian life.

I'm 18 and i've been in the Air Force Cadets before a long time ago and i've decided today i'd apply to join the military.

In Australia you can apply online and it sets you up with a date to attend to talk to a careers member and basically just to see if you would adapt, you can apply for three preffered jobs depending on your skills etc, you cant just apply for pilot and get a shot at getting it lol.

My three preffered roles were

1st - Airfield Defence / Guardsman

( Typically your a guard for airfield bases and do basic work on airfields. )

2nd - Cavalryman

( The guy who basically operates machine guns etc on light armour vehicles )

3rd - Rifleman

( Basic Soldier stereotype dude with gun )

any thoughts anyone else thinking of joining or have had people join the military before?

Airfield guard would be your best bet. Decent pay compared to a regular grunt. Of course you'll be a POG though,

yeah apparently they are aggressively seeking them. hopefully my little experience in the air force cadets can help out in slotting me in

1st is "most" laid back job
2nd and 3rd are basic but i feel like the 1st may be a bigger responsibility and they don't give it to newbies often. Goodluck though man, give us an update.

I was also planning on joining the military but now I am thinking no...

The moment America starts sending in tons of troops to take out ISIS, Australia will also send their military forces in. I do not need to be walking to my execution as I would like to think of it. Sure enough it is fine in some areas which have some civil wars.

But honestly I would like to be a patriot but I do not plan on doing it by joining the military

Being in the Airforce Defense Guard is already getting minor benefits over the others lol sneaky but i don't have many qualifications and i don't want to sit at a desk, I wanna be actually doing stuff.

only way i'd join the rcaf or caf would be as an officer. not gonna be some enlisted scrub sent for fodder.

It does. I got a friend over there who did that. Finish high school with the proper grades, go to them, enlist in the pilot officer program thing. Not only do they pay for your University bills, you get a salary too.

I am hopefully going into the army or navy to train for engineer.
Then move onto drilling offshore for rigs

yeah i wouldn't mind being cannon fodder lol. extra cash and aussies rarely get deployed unfortunately,

I want some action!

but yeah australia has it's military setup pretty well for payments etc, will be getting 40k a year just for training and this includes accommodation and food all medical and dental bills paid.
