    Yup
They blame the downfall of their games purely on this community, but in reality it was more just the nature of their games, and the changing market.
Nowadays they seem to scapegoat every problem onto 'botters', justly and unjustly. I'm not saying 'botters' haven't caused problems for them in the past, but
they should be more accepting of the fact that it's the same with every game company. If all their troubles truly originate from our 'third-party software' as they like to call it - it was their mistake not to take a better stance against it in the first place. Instead, they let it grow, and become a part of the game. Without cheating, their games are little to nothing now.

I think they should be happy that they don't really deal with hackers, like other mmo's, where they get ddos'ed or have issues with exploited scripts.
And i don't really see them having financial problems, since i see many legends and people who still buy ACs, so i can't say they are going through a bad time.

It's very hard to maintain old games on outdating software. Hence why they're making AQW3D (in Unity) as an extension strategy.
You can look at this for example: https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=aqw or this: https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=aqworlds
It surprised me actually - VERY recently the search popularity has increased (possibly due to AQW3D) but in the long term it still isn't at its prime.
This is the same with all products in a business. Now take into consideration the demographics - it's the harsh truth that the countries where the AE games are most
popular (The Philippines, Indonesia, etc.) aren't the most economically developed, and naturally people's priority isn't going to be to spend money on an online game.

Luckily for AE, they have a somewhat small yet solid player base who constantly buy AC's/Membership - this is what keeps the company afloat.
They have no financial backing, it's purely the players.

It's sad in a way. I've played their games for a ridiculously long time - this is part of the reason I agreed to stop coding anything against them.

Well, that kinda changed my perspective. I still don't agree on them throwing everything at botters. Yes, in some way it is harming the system, because there are people that struggle to get the BoA or that BLoD and you get it faster than them. Still, using a bot doesn't mean you harm other players in any kind of way. At least, that's my vision of "botting". Hacking accounts/stealing credit cards for buying memberships/etc are harming other people and this must be punishable. But botting, at least for me, they aren't really harming other players.

Agreed, botting itself doesn't really harm them. There have been exploits previously which have been able to harm them, though, which they would have been more worried about. And it can be argued that things like cracking cause a lot of problems for the Help Team (which is true), or perhaps that botting demotivates some other legitimate players - but the effects are still minor. I've posted this on MPGH at some point before, but this is a quote from an AE staff member in a private conversation I had with them.

We receive literally thousands of emails every day. Hundreds of them are accounts which have been compromised for one reason or another. To be brutally honest I'm not sure that our company will be able to continue much longer due to the damage that some hackers have done to our foundation and due to the illwill and hurt feelings that have been fostered among our players. I personally feel that if we had been quicker and taken a stronger stance against hacking and botting earlier the games would not have degenerated to their present state. But Artix has always had the philosophy that all players can be good and that we should encourage them to be good instead of punishing them when they aren't.
After reading that, there isn't much more explanation needed...

An unhackable game is the worst game. I swear, this is true, I mean, there's just something I love about hacking, I feel more rewarded when I cheat then when I don't. I think AE is going into depression though, its like germany after WW1, you see yourself falling, as aqw peaked and is far from when it peaked. They look for reasons, I don't blame them, and they see these botters and they're like "ITS THEM ITS ALL THEM".

Botting = playing without getting bored as fuck
Hacking = getting things without paying or doing something that will give you more things in an illegal way.

    aqw doesn't get that.

AE are stuck in the past. They need to implement new features which successful MMOs have.
