The main thing they look for is activity in the section you want minion for. That's pretty much the single biggest thing. Be active in a section you like, and when a position opens up you will get it. Also, try contributing a lot.

I can't really talk, I flame a lot I got debater of the year last year in school, because if someone pisses me off I wreck them. I am trying to flame less now I have a staff position.
