Someone help Got hit with Plagiarism lmao

Basically as title says.. In college, second year. We had this stupid assignment we had to do on excel, and we needed to use couple of pages of dummy test to important it, from some website that generates dummy text. Basically, my friend sent me his, I changed the formulas around, etc, but one thing I didn't change is the 4 pages of dummy text. I have no clue how I forgot to do this. Anyways, I checked the website and they generate new text each time.. I got hit with plagiarism investigation now. They said I gotta wait before I go and talk to them.

Anyone have thoughts on this? I really can't afford to get kicked out since I need to go to grad school lmao. Or even a zero in the course, maybe max a zero on the assignment is what im willing to go for. Anyways, can someone suggest what I can tell them based on my situation lmao?

@Fregi I am not sure how your country handles plagiarism investigations. Be honest and hope for the best that you just get a zero for the assignment ? if changing the dummy text was all you needed to do and you already changed the formulas maybe tell them that it was a simple mistake ?

I plagiarise all the time. I do honor classes and they ask honor students to do bullshit experiments, so I usually just go online and get results and yank em around a bit. However, I do know students who have bee caught. Here are a few things that will happen depending on your college rules. So know that everything I say won't apply to all colleges/universities.

My college plagiarism rules are

1.) Failed assignment and warning (and I think overall grade gets lowered)
2.) Drop out of that class and second warning
3.) Drop out of college

Warnings carry over throughout your other classes and years. They also mark down your student number and when you get transferred you will be marked as a dishonest student.

Just plagiarise important things I triple and quadruple check myself. Have my brother and sister check. Have my friends check my work. Have a third party grader check. Then I go to a person who reviews work for errors and plagrism and have them check (DO THIS LAST JUST INCASE) and than I review it myself to make sure that I don't have any bullshit things I left in there (when I usually do even after doing all this but no noticeable plagrism is left) .
I am not speaking out of my ass, I have a 3.7 GPA right now with honors and I am getting a lot of my tuition paid to go to the University of Illinois for human resource and risk management pretty soon, so I don't fuck around when it comes to serious shit like that.

Think it depends a lot on your professor/department. If they have the mindset to straight fail you, doubt there much you can do. Think best choice is just probably to come clean with it or say you were struggling at the last min and you just wanted to finish the assignment.

well i guess u could said i forgot to change the text, but they still won't take it, since:

1) forgetting isn't an excuse in college
2) u asked ur friend for one, and i guess u could say that considered u being lazy


but on the good side, it isn't really considered plagiarism since u didn't copy anything, as u just forgot to change the text, and u didn't "copy" it

Fuck boys. I was thinking of getting a doctors letter and telling him I was very stressed out and depressed. Ill tell him I have fucked up depression and ill give that to the mans investigating and ill say major depression caused me to slack a little bit, and I needed help from my friend and didn't think dummy text was that important that it needed to be changed per individual. Also in the course syllabus it really does not specify if you can't work with someone so maybe I can use that as an excuse as well?

I hope you changed the author name on the excel sheet. If you just changed shit on your friends sheet, the author will still be the same (your friend). Right-click > properties > Details.

Tbh, I don't feel bad for you. I feel sorry for your friend who took the time and effort to actually do his assignment, and was probably pressured to give his work to you. I hope your friend doesn't face any consequences

Fuck bro, maybe they could of caught me like this.. I really have no clue how they caught me so far. Because about 4 of my boys used the same assignment. Only two of them got the plagiarism email. Its so weird. And Im on Mac so I can't see the author, hopefully it changed or something when I saved it again on my PC. Im gonna try to check on a windows computer later damn
